Short answer

Making an app in 2026 costs about $15k to $40k for a web app MVP, $20k to $45k for an iOS and Android MVP, $25k to $60k for an AI-powered MVP and $50k to $150k+ for a full multi-role product, with a senior offshore team at $25 to $49 an hour. The same scope from a US agency at $100 to $200 an hour costs three to five times more. Features, platforms, integrations and compliance drive most of the difference.

What drives the cost of an app

1. Features and user roles

Every feature is design, code and testing time. A login screen is a few days; live tracking, video calls or an AI assistant are weeks. The number of user roles matters even more: a marketplace needs a customer experience, a provider experience and an admin console, which is close to three products. Our calculator shows the hours behind each feature so you can see where the money goes.

2. Platforms

A web app is the cheapest first release. A cross-platform mobile app in Flutter or React Native covers iOS and Android from one codebase for roughly 20 percent more per feature than web. Web plus mobile costs more again because every feature has two front ends. Native apps written separately for iOS and Android are rarely worth it for a first release. See Flutter vs React Native for the framework choice and the mobile app development cost guide for mobile specifics.

3. Integrations

Payments, maps, CRMs, accounting tools, EHRs and data providers each add one to three weeks, more when the partner's API is poorly documented or requires an approval process. Count your integrations early; they are the most common reason quotes grow after discovery.

4. Compliance

HIPAA, PCI DSS, SOC 2 and GDPR add audit logging, access control, encryption, documentation and testing. Expect 15 to 25 percent on top of a comparable non-regulated app. Our guide on how to make an app HIPAA compliant lists the work in detail.

5. Design depth

A proven UI kit with light branding is enough for many B2B tools. Consumer apps competing on experience need custom design, motion and user testing, which can double the design budget. Both are valid; the mistake is paying for premium design before the core workflow is proven.

6. Who builds it

Cost to build an app like…

Clone-style estimates are useful because everyone knows what the app does. We work them out with the same model as our calculator, and each links to the exact setup so you can change it. An Uber-like ride-hailing app costs $46k to $85k for an MVP. A Teladoc-like telemedicine app costs $42k to $77k. We also break down a DoorDash-like delivery app, an Airbnb-like booking marketplace, a Cash App-like payment app and a ChatGPT-style AI app. For other types see our guides to custom software development cost, AI chatbot development cost, MCP server development cost, SaaS development cost, MVP development cost, healthcare app development cost and AI agent development cost.

How to lower the cost without cutting corners

  1. Pay for discovery first. A one- to two-week sprint ($3k to $8k) produces a prototype and a fixed estimate, and removes the guesswork that inflates quotes.
  2. Launch one workflow, one user type and one platform where you can, then add the rest with real usage data.
  3. Buy commodity pieces: authentication, payments, video, maps and messaging are solved problems with good APIs.
  4. Choose cross-platform mobile and a single language across the stack, so a small team can work everywhere.
  5. Move to a monthly team after launch. Senior engineers from $4,000 a month cost less than change requests on a fixed-price contract once priorities start to move.

How much does it cost to make an app in 2026?

With a senior offshore team, a web app MVP costs $15k to $40k, a mobile MVP $20k to $45k, an AI-powered MVP $25k to $60k and a full multi-role product $50k to $150k+. US agencies typically charge three to five times more for the same scope.

How much does a simple app cost?

A simple web app with one workflow, accounts and an admin panel starts around $15k. A simple mobile app starts around $20k, because it needs store releases and device testing.

How long does it take to make an app?

Eight to fourteen weeks for most MVPs after a one- to two-week discovery sprint, and four to eight months for a full multi-role product.

What does an app cost to run each month?

At MVP stage, usually a few hundred dollars for hosting and services, plus usage-based fees for maps, SMS or video, and a maintenance retainer of $1.5k to $8k per month if you want ongoing updates.

Can I get a fixed price for my app?

Yes. After a discovery sprint ($3k to $8k, credited against the build) we give a fixed price for the defined scope.
