  • Build a design system and component library so every module looks and behaves the same way

What a UI/UX designer does on our teams

A UI/UX designer on our team runs one sprint ahead of engineering. They interview users, map the journeys that matter most, wireframe and prototype in Figma, test the prototype with real users and hand over a design system with tokens and component specs that engineers build from directly. On Vonza, an all-in-one platform for course creators and coaches, our designer audited the main user journeys, redesigned them around the tasks creators perform most and built the shared component library first so every module inherited the same patterns; the client reported improved engagement after the redesign. On AutoViz, an embeddable 3D and AR wheel configurator for aftermarket brands, the designer worked alongside three engineers on the shopper-facing configurator and two admin dashboards, each white-labelled per brand.

How we assess UI/UX designers

  • Portfolio review: two shipped products walked through from the research question to the released screens, including what was cut and why
  • Design critique: a live review of one of our own screens, listening for how they reason about hierarchy, states, accessibility and the engineering cost of a choice
  • Sample task: a four-hour redesign of a form-heavy flow from a short brief, delivered as a Figma prototype with tokens, empty and error states and notes for engineers
  • Collaboration: how they write a handoff note, answer a developer's question and run a short usability session

FAQ

Hiring UI/UX designers, answered.

Do your designers work in our Figma?

Yes. They work in your Figma workspace with your libraries and naming, so the files and the design system stay yours when the engagement ends.

Can we hire a UI/UX designer on a contract basis for one project?

Yes. Monthly contracts with 30-day notice, or part-time at 80 hours a month when you only need a designer for a few weeks. The two-week replacement guarantee applies either way.

How do they hand off to engineers?

Design tokens, component specs and annotated prototypes, with empty, loading and error states drawn rather than implied. The designer stays in the sprint to answer questions and reviews built screens against the design.
