Best App Development Companies in Australia (2026): A Verified Shortlist
Nine app development companies with real Australian offices, checked in October 2026, plus one offshore option: HQ, named apps, focus and published prices.

Short answer
Australia's app developers worth shortlisting in 2026 include consultancies (Mantel, Versent), Australian studios (DreamWalk, Code Heroes, Hatchd, Bilue, Elegant Media, Appetiser) and EB Pearls, a Sydney firm with a Nepal team. Code Heroes publishes an MVP range of $30k to $75k. Innovation Insight has no Australian office; it is included as an offshore option at $20k to $45k for a mobile MVP, with CareFlair, an Australian NDIS marketplace, as its local reference.
How we built this list
Every Australian company here is headquartered in Australia or shows a real Australian office address on its own website, opened in October 2026. Directory listings that only claim an Australian presence did not count. We include Innovation Insight separately and say plainly that we work from Pakistan, because comparing onshore and offshore is a decision many Australian founders face. The criteria:
- Facts come only from the company's own website, opened in October 2026. If a page did not state a fact (a founding year, a headquarters), we left it out rather than filling it from directories or memory.
- Each company had to show at least one named, public project or client in this area. Logo walls without a described project did not count.
- No scores and no ranking. Companies are grouped by type, and the "best for" line reflects what each one publicly shows, not a private judgement of quality.
- Prices are listed only where the company publishes them. Most do not publish prices.
- Innovation Insight is held to the same rules: only work from our own published case studies, and only the prices on our pricing page.

Innovation Insight
Innovation Insight has no Australian office. We were founded in 2019, are headquartered in Lahore with an engineering office in Sialkot, and have 50+ engineers, designers and project managers. Our Australian reference is CareFlair, a commission-free NDIS marketplace connecting participants with support workers, built on the MERN stack with geospatial search, real-time messaging and WCAG-aligned design, released in 16 weeks. In October, Sydney is six hours ahead of Lahore, so our working day overlaps with an Australian afternoon. Published prices in US dollars: a mobile MVP at $20k to $45k, a web MVP at $15k to $40k, senior engineers at $25 to $49 an hour. Best for: founders who want to compare an onshore quote with an offshore one. See software development for Australian companies.
Who we checked and left out
Buzinga describes itself as a division of The Butterfly Group powered by Appetiser, so listing it would duplicate Appetiser. Thoughtworks has three Australian offices, but none of the named clients on the pages we opened were identified as Australian app work. CopperCodes' Australian domain did not resolve. Several firms that appear in Australian directories are headquartered in Vietnam or India with no Australian address on their own sites, so they did not meet the criteria.
How to choose an app development company in Australia
- Decide onshore, hybrid or offshore first. Onshore studios give same-day workshops and local accountability; offshore teams cost less per hour; hybrids sit in between. Our guide to hiring developers in Australia vs offshore compares them.
- Check where the code is written. Several Australian-fronted firms deliver from other countries, which is fine if it is stated in the contract.
- Ask about the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles, and where user data will be hosted. For health or NDIS products, ask about local hosting.
- If you are a government or regulated buyer, ask about IRAP-assessed hosting and Essential Eight practices before the shortlist, not after.
- Ask for two references from projects like yours, and call them. A case study on a website is the vendor's version of events.
- Interview the engineers who will actually do the work, not only the sales lead or a solutions architect who leaves after the kickoff.
- Get the rate card by seniority and the planned team mix in writing. A low blended rate often hides a junior-heavy team.
- Confirm that code, cloud accounts and third-party keys sit in your organisation's accounts from the first commit.

LinkedInRelated questions.
How much does app development cost in Australia?
Code Heroes publishes $30k to $75k for an MVP and $75k to $180k for a growth app. DreamWalk's and Bilue's contact forms show budget bands from under $20,000 for a prototype up to $1m+. Innovation Insight, working from Pakistan, publishes $20k to $45k USD for a mobile MVP.
Which Australian app companies develop everything onshore?
DreamWalk states that all development is done in-house in Melbourne. Others on this list work with offshore teams or do not say. Ask each vendor where the code is written.
Is it cheaper to build an app offshore than in Australia?
Usually, on hourly rates. The saving shrinks if the brief is unclear or the vendor is weak, because rework and management time are expensive anywhere. A paid pilot sprint is the cheapest way to find out.
What is the time difference between Australia and Pakistan?
Pakistan does not use daylight saving. Sydney is five hours ahead of Lahore in the Australian winter and six hours ahead during daylight saving, which leaves a shared window in the Australian afternoon.
Do Australian app companies build for government?
Several do. Code Heroes names the Queensland Digital Licence, Elegant Media names the Australian Taxation Office and Australian Defence Force, and Hatchd names a bushfire planning tool for DFES.
