Toned.ai: Taking an AI fitness product from vision to launch

Toned.ai set out to build a fitness product driven by AI. We turned the concept into a working mobile app with the AI features and backend to support it.

The challenge

Where they started.

  • An ambitious concept that needed to be shaped into a buildable product.
  • AI features whose behaviour had to be reliable enough for everyday users, not just demos.
  • A mobile experience that had to feel simple despite the complexity underneath.
What we did

The approach.

  • Ran a discovery phase to define the first release and the AI capabilities it depended on.
  • Built and evaluated the AI components iteratively, integrating them behind clear, simple app flows.
  • Developed the mobile app and backend in parallel with regular builds for the founders to test.
Deliverables

What shipped.

  • Product discovery and release plan
  • AI feature development and evaluation
  • Mobile app for iOS and Android
  • Backend services and infrastructure
  • Launch support
In detail

How the engagement ran.

Context

Toned.ai set out to build an AI-driven fitness product and needed a partner to take it from concept to a launched mobile app. The work required AI development alongside a consumer app experience, with careful attention to how the intelligence surfaced in everyday use.

How we worked

A team of three engineers, including an AI engineer, plus a designer and a project manager worked from the founders' vision through prototype, build and launch. AI features were developed against an evaluation set agreed with the client and deployed behind APIs with monitoring for quality and cost. The mobile app shipped in sprints to test devices, and the team managed the store release and the first weeks of live monitoring before moving into a support arrangement.

Outcome

What changed.

  • A vision turned into a real, launched product, in the client's words.
  • A process the client described as smooth and effective from start to finish.
  • A final product the client expects to have a long-term impact on their business.
